I am a brother of Phi Sigma Kappa here at Lehigh, and our national philanthropy is the Special Olympics. We are very close to reaching our goal of raising $2500 to send an athlete to the Special Olympics. In addition to this, we are involved with Special Olympics – Bethlehem, which hosts a variety of sports. As long as you have a way to drive a few minutes off of campus, these opportunities are available to everyone at Lehigh. Over the past year I have volunteered for both basketball and bowling with the Special Olympics in Bethlehem. I know people who have volunteered for swimming, and there are a variety of other sports to choose from. Practices for these events happen on a weekly basis. Volunteers are there to help coach the athletes and improve their abilities. Everyone that I know that has volunteered for these practices have loved the experience, and I would encourage everyone to volunteer. It is a great way to take a 1-2 hour break from school work each week, helping coach whatever sports you love to play.
