Recently, there was an article about a Lehigh alum who became the first female CEO of a Big Four auditing firm. In early February, Deloitte announced that Catherine Engelbert would become CEO of the firm. This feat is outstanding not only for Lehigh’s recognition, but for all minorities in the working world. Catherine was able to shatter what is known as the glass ceiling. The glass ceiling is a barrier that prevents minorities and women from climbing the corporate ladder regardless of their qualifications. Catherine’s accomplishment is an inspiration for all those held back by the glass ceiling to persevere and break through the ceiling. As a minority, I too am extremely impressed by her diligence and ability to keep on going even though societal values dragged on her heels.
