mobiLEHIGH Update

I had mentioned I was planning on participating in this year’s mobiLEHIGH competition, which is a game development competition here at Lehigh. It is hosted by the Programming Club, but it is open to all students.
My friend and I thought of a great 3D game idea, but were not sure if we would be able to complete it by just ourselves. We teamed up with two other students who are both Mechanical Engineering majors and were interested in competing. One is a grad student and the other is an undergrad. This speaks to the range of students that are interested and will be competing in mobiLEHIGH. Between the four of us, we now feel confident in completing our game idea. Since it will be a 3D game, we are able to utilize the CAD design skill set of the Mechanical Engineering students to help develop an awesome 3D model and rendering to be used as the setting of our game.

Unfortunately, I’m not going to say what our game idea is just yet. Once we make significant progress I will upload some screenshots of the game and what it is. To develop the game, we are going to be using a game engine platform called Unity. Unity is a very powerful game engine to allow the development of beautiful 3D games. What’s awesome about Unity is not only is it one of the best game engines out there, but it’s free! There is a Pro version with even more incredible features but obviously that comes at a high price. You can check out their website at There’s a plethora of tutorials both on their website and out on the web to help anyone get started.

I’ll be sure to keep the blog updated on our team’s progress throughout the competition! I’m excited about our game and can only hope we win, but we need to make sure we have a finished product.
