For my humanities requirement, I am currently taking Asian Studies 097. This is not like my regular computer science classes or classes related to my business minor. However, this class is very different but yet it relates to encore ideas of engineering. In class, we have discussion about the technology and architecture founded by China and how it developed and impacted the rest of the world. It is very interesting to learn how early inventions by the Chinese are crucial part in today’s technological advancement. For example, the compass developed by the Chinese was the forerunner to the compass still used by today. It is the same engineering concept used to built compasses on smartphones and navigational devices. In one of our recent classes, the professor brought in an compass built by the Chinese and we used our iPhones to see if there is any effect on the compass. To my surprising, the compass moved depending on the way you rotate the iPhone. The reason was of course was because of the magnetic poles and the field that is created caused this phenomena.
