Lehigh has a club on campus called the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers or IEEE for short. This club has a variety of members who are electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or mechanical engineering majors (as well as probably a few others). Although we have had only one meeting so far this year, we already have a lot planned. We have several build projects, with the first one coming up this Friday where we are building a wireless control for an arduino. I have had experience with arduinos in a class that all engineers have to take called Engineering 10, however, I have not had any experience with the tools we are using to make the wireless control so it should be a great learning experience. Also coming up soon we have a meeting to begin talking about building a robot for the Brown Robotics Competition in the spring. We placed 5th in the competition last year and hope to improve on that by getting an early start. We plan on having an ice cream social, barbeque, as well as a few other social events to help the members of the club to get to know each other better. There are a few professional engineers and companies already scheduled to come in to speak with us about a variety of electronic engineering topics. Overall, IEEE serves many purposes of intellectual, social, and professional development.
