Social Media and Networking

On Tuesday night,  one of the marketing department Professor, Beth Gallant came to Drinker Hall to have discuss with us about the importance and usage of social media and networking. More importantly, she discussed how to use social media to get ahead in the professional world.

Many companies now use some kind of social media to check on potential intern and employees before considering them for position. Employers will try to look into candidate’s online presence and usage of social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Sometimes, this could affect a candidates chances in a negative. On the other hand, it can also help the candidate if employees see candidate strong networking profiles like the LinkedIn profile.

One importance social network that Professor Gallant advised the students to look into was LinkedIn which is a professional social networking site. Having a LinkedIn account can be useful in connecting with employers and people who work in certain companies. It is a way to build up your online presence while finding out about possible internships or opening that are posted. It is also a great way to build reference.

Professor Gallant ended the discuss by advising the students to google themselves and see what kind of things pop up under their name that future employers can access.
